Black Heart Press Blog

Long-time Printeresting readers may remember Patrick Wagner from his first mention on our site back way back in the summer of 2009. At the time, he was working on Handsome Boy Printing Club, a video print project that documented somewhat destructive experimentation with printing matrices. Somewhere between relocating from Germany to Finland and going to school, Patrick’s found the time to run one of the best print blogs around under the moniker Black Heart Press. His “biased and opinionated printmaking blog” is unearthing gems.

Cinephiles may think the clip below is from To Live and Die in LA but BHP clarifies in the blog post, Makin’ Money. This is an “instructional printmaking video featuring Willem Dafoe, directed by William Friedkin, music by Wang Chung. Video guides you through the entire process of creating a print with multiple runs, covering correct exposure, colour matching, alternative ways of curation, proper printmaking car and ways and means of acquiring “grants”.”

His posts are funny observations on print culture but also reflect legitimate research. The “weblog” form, at its best, offers a unique point of view and Black Heart Press has that in excess. This is an unsolicited endorsement: I’m glad he’s part of the online discourse. If somehow you aren’t already following BHP, you should be. On Tumblr and on Twitter and on Facebook.
