Various things to be excited about in June.
Dear Printeresting readers: here are a few snippets and tidbits (in no particular order, mostly stuff happening in and around the U.S. midwest and the U.K.) that I am excited about. I hope you are too. Because it is of course the longest day of the year, which means you have so much more daylight to be excited about things.

- Columbia College Chicago‘s Center for Book & Paper has a great-looking show up called Material Assumptions: Paper as Dialogue, featuring newly commissioned works by Dan Devening, Deborah Boardman, Ian Schneller, Annica Cuppetelli & Cristobal Mendoza, Matthew Shlian, Kate McQuillen, Niall McClelland, Anna Tsantir, Daniel Luedtke, Zoe Nelson, Julie Schenkelberg, & Susan Goethel-Campbell. (Through August 11.)
- Speaking of Columbia College, the longstanding excellence of Anchor Graphics is in peril! In late May, Time Out Chicago spoke with David Jones, who founded the print shop in 1988, on the real possibility that Anchor will be “phased out” by an unsupportive administration.
- Chicago-area letterpress printmaker Celene Aubry is making the move to work with Hatch Show Print in Nashville! She’ll also be down at the Ladies of Letterpress conference in Asheville, NC, August 2-5, which is worth checking out if you’re in the area.
- Our friends at Sonnenzimmer in Chicago are working on a great new book about printmaking and poster production called Warp and Weft, with help from a lot of talented people. Sonnenzimmer describes Warp and Weft as “a book exploring the compositional approach, historical influence, and individual story behind 30 of our favorite screen printed posters.” Michael Cina‘s writing the preface, Alex Fuller is working on the book design, Nathan Keay is in charge of photography, and Featherproof Books (Zach Dodson and Jonathan Messinger) is handling the editing.

- June’s Art in America has an interview with artist Nicole Eisenman, who has recently (rightly!) converted from painting to printmaking. Ahhh, the sweet joys of another recruit added to the ranks.
- This merry band of Nashville printmakers gets a nice shout out in the Nashville Scene.

- The British Museum in London is currently displaying (in full) their recently acquired Vollard Suite, Picasso’s pinnacle of printmaking prowess. It’s a really beautiful series of 100 classically influenced etchings Picasso made between 1930 and 1937. (Through 2 September.)

- Ingleby Gallery in Edinburgh has a beautiful retrospective of Callum Innes‘ work up currently: Works on Paper, 1989-2012. I really love these scraped color field monotype prints. They’re heady and vibrate around the edges, but have a calm translucence in the center. (Through 14 July.)
- I’m going to do a longer post on this shortly with loads of images, but as a heads up, the Barbican Art Gallery in London has a phenomenal show up right now called Bauhaus: Art as Life, and there are so many beautiful Lyonel Feininger woodcuts that I was giggling to myself with glee in the galleries for quite a long time. A nice section on Bauhaus typography, too. (Through 12 August.)
