Lithography in High Def

Most of you probably don’t need an introduction to the Tamarind Lithography Institute. The Art of Time is a short film by Martina Chamrad that takes viewers behind-the-scenes at the legendary printshop in Albuquerque, NM. A collage of personalities and voices walk us through various aspects of Tamarind and its history.

It’s nice to see lithography on film. Over the last few years, there’s been a proliferation of films focusing on letterpress. Using image and sound, these mini-documentaries capture the visceral feeling of working with ink, paper, and press. No argument that letterpress has earned the attention but it’s nice to see some other print processes get some screen time, too. The Art of Time couples beautiful cinematography with a deserving subject- go, Tamarind!

  1. This video makes me nostalgic and misty. I love seeing the new facility – doesn’t it look great? And speaking of great-looking – Anne Slattery (curator)!
