For anyone interested, here’s a photo tour of the Lamar Dodd School of Art printshop at the University of Georgia. While I wasn’t visiting Athens on official Printeresting business, I had my camera and couldn’t resist taking some pictures. In case you find yourself wondering how it is that everything looks so clean, this is only the department’s second year in their awesome, new building. There are images of the shop itself as well as some shots inside individual studios-I attribute credit for work where I can. I took pictures toward the end of my visit so I didn’t get pics of all studios- sorry.
Shared grad/faculty shop… this also includes some critique and meeting areas. Individual studios for faculty and grads are located around the perimeter.
This is a different view of the same space. Note the large Takach in the foreground. Nice.
Some stacked frames in Asst Prof Jon Swindler’s office/studio.
Drawings everywhere in Swindler’s office/studio.
Another framed print by Jon Swindler.
Do not do not guage- I see a Printeresting contest related to bizarre printshop signage in the not-to-distant future.
Look familiar?
…from soon-to-be-alum Tate Foley…
View of a green (!) rooftop from lithoshop. Unfortunately, you can’t see the wildflowers in this picture.
Big hallway connecting various printshop rooms: grad/faculty space, intaglio, silkscreen, litho, clean room, letterpress, etc.
Silkscreen by past visiting artist Dan Rule.
Just imagine what anthropologie could do with all this wood type.
Headless t-shirt graphic. Weird.
More grad work- this time by Phil Jasen…
Grad Helen Farmer working with multiples- this pic is actually from her website.
This is by no means a comprehensive tour, there was definitely more strong work, but it might give you some idea of what’s happening at UGA. Thanks to Jon Swindler, Melissa Harshman, and all the print grads for being so hospitable. They have a beautiful facility and they’re generating some exciting printed matter.

Strong!
Do you think they meant “Do Not Do Not Gouge”? Guage is not a word, and Gauge isn’t really applicable.
Oh Snap! Officer KVH of the Spelling Police issues a citation!
…But only because he beat me to it.
Yeah, I was a little surprised I beat you to it too…
Are you two really analyzing the “Do Not Do Not Guage”? I thought it was obvious… it was hanging up because it was funny. It is funny.
yea, it looks like somebody tried to make that sign with their left hand and brain off.
Printmakers go crazy, that’s why it’s more fun.
I used to Guage, but I’ve since sought help.
Damn! That’s all I have to say.
As an UGA alum, its quite impressive to see these photos. These shops were just ideas on paper when I was there. The grad and faculty printmaking shops were tucked away on campus next to the vet school in the basement of a building that once upon a time was used to teach woodworking skills to football players. Huge improvement -go dawgs!
PS – I only guage in my own personal studio
Hey all. Im glad my “Guage” post-it is creating so much conversation. Jon stole the sign off of a post it installation i did in the spring….

I picked it up off the floor, Eric. BTW, the rest of your printstallation is still in the letterpress studio.
Thanks again to Jason Urban and Leslie Mutchler for a great visit. The studio’s abuzz. Thanks also to Printeresting for giving our studios some love.
Jason, I found the $20. Sneaky Dog.
Gas money, dude. Thanks for having us. Keep on guagin’.
