The International Print Center of New York has been hosting its New Prints exhibition series since 2000, the exhibits happen four times a year and the work is usually juried by a noted group or individual; in this case the Jurors were Matthew Day Jackson, Jacob Lewis, Barbara Sahlman and Roberta Waddell. And if you have a few minutes Matthew Day Jackson’s essay is a concise and rollicking history of print with an emphasis on what’s at stake in todays art world. What makes the New Prints series really exciting is the way that art star with professionally printed work will hang on the wall right next to a ’self-published’ artist whose work one may not normally see hanging in a Chelsea gallery. This exhibit did not disappoint, rather it succeeded in showcasing a poly-vocal chorus of talent whose work ran the gamut of possibilities.
The artists in this exhibit include: Lauren Abshire, Glen Baldridge, J. Catherine Bebout, Marieke Bolhuis, Matthew Brannon, Nicholas Brown, Ryan Burkhart, Susan Goethel Campbell, Stacey Cann, Kerstin Cedell, Phillip Chen, Briar Craig, Luke Dorman, Rick Finn, Quintin Gonzalez, Valerie Hammond, Adriane Herman, Tatana Kellner, Damon Kowarsky, Janet Marcavage, Teresa Gomez Martorell, Jiha Moon, Yoko Motomiya, Ethan Murrow, Heidi Neilson, Tom Orr, Krista Peters, Raymond Pettibon, Sarah Nicole Phillips, Ron Rocco, Nick Satinover, Joyce J.
