An unnamed source alerted me to these images that have showed up on Gawker.com and seem to be in some cases quoting from the Obamagraphics of this election season. To see the full post click here.
In regards to this image a commentator wrote, “I’ll never understand why polar bears always vote against their own best interests.”

OK, the polar bear is hilarious because polar bears would never vote for McCain. Or would they?
But I have mixed feelings about the rest. I’m tired of negative campaigning- even when it’s unauthorized street art. I’ve seen a lot of variations on Fairey’s Hope poster… Palin (Nope), McCain (Nope), Hillary Clinton (Nope), Bush (Dope), Bill Clinton (Grope), Pope Benedict (Pope), Luke Skywalker (A New Hope), Bob Hope (Hope), and a myriad of negative variations on the original featuring Obama. When an image achieves this iconic level of recognition, it’s ripe for parody and it’s to be expected. As an example, just look at the many mutations of the famous Che Guevera photo or that first iPod advertising campaign with the silhouetted figures.
But what I really respond to in the Fairey poster is the positivity. The rest are negative and/or cynical and they water down the original. It’s definitely complicated and I don’t want to sound overly naive but I guess I just like the idea of taking the high road to the presidency.
Lauren Frances Adams did a similar series. . .check out her website at http://www.lfadams.com
